Last week Luke was sick with flu-like symptoms - a high fever, nasal and chest congestion. He wasn't overly fatigued, so he played a lot of Wii during his three days at home - wait, make that three and a half days at home. His school called Monday saying he wasn't feeling well and that he had been sick to his stomach. When I picked him up I learned that he didn't actually get sick, but had turned green and felt like he was going to be sick. I took him home and he was fine the rest of the day - full of energy and ate pretty well, so he went to school on Tuesday. Wednesday when he woke up his temp was 101, so I stayed home with him and Audrey as well (there was a note Monday morning that someone had H1N1 symptoms at her daycare, and when I called to tell them she was staying home, her teacher told me 13 kids had flu symptoms; there are around 90 kids at her school so that is kind of a lot). Ben was home with him Thursday and that night his temp went up to 103.5 and did again during the night when his ibuprofen wore off. The last time he had a fever was 4 a.m. on Friday and it didn't go back up after his medicine wore off. He still has a stuffy nose and occasionally coughs, but overall he feels good.
Audrey was invited to her friend Lily's birthday party Saturday night at the Gym Nest. She has never been there and actually never done any kind of gymnastics except for the make-shift balance beam in our basement and doing somersaults, so I was excited to see her in action. She was hesitant to try the trampoline without me holding her hand, but after doing it once she went back over and over again without my assistance. She absolutely loved it! I asked a few times if she wanted to jump in the foam pit and she refused, until I told her we could go watch the other kids jump in. It took all of five seconds watching the other kids and she was right in there with them. She is a great jumper! Be sure to watch the video I posted earlier!
On Sunday Audrey and I organized the basement playroom. I first asked her if she would like to move her kitchen to the basement - it has been in her room which makes it kind of crowded. She agreed and was excited to take it down there. We have been trying to get the kids to play downstairs (it's why we bought the house for crying out loud!) but they've been afraid most of the time and will only play if someone else goes with them. They think there are monsters or something, but all I've ever seen are spiders and dead crickets. A few weeks ago Audrey really wanted to play in the basement but Luke didn't want to, so I told her that she was brave and there was nothing down there to be afraid of. And she did it, she played by herself in the basement! She didn't even get scared when she discovered a spider, she just wanted to squash it. It's been kind of a mess down there because we don't always, okay, hardly ever put the toys away when we're finished, but that's why it's a playroom and in the basement. So I organized the toys and hopefully it will be easier for the kids to play more often, especially with the cold, wet weather we're having.
After Ben got home for work we told the kids we were going to the Fossil Gorge because the weather was really nice and we needed to take advantage of that. They were excited and Luke had a great time looking for fossils and even brought a notebook to draw some of them. Audrey looked at a few fossils but mostly threw rocks in the standing water and tried to steal a rock by putting it in her pocket until we reminded her there is a $500 fine for disturbing or taking the fossils.
