Mama, I Wrote A Letter!

First of all, yes, I realize I haven't posted since the end of May and I apologize, I don't know where June went and now we are almost through July! I sent out our June Picasa album so that should give you some idea of what we were up to (if you need me to, I can send the album again).

Lately Audrey has been asking us about letters and wanting to write them, so I will sit with her and write a letter and she will attempt to write it, although hasn't been successful. Yesterday morning she wanted a crayon & paper to color on then laid on the floor to color. Next thing I know she says, "Mama, I wrote a letter!" In my head I said, yeah, right, probably a scribble, but when I looked at her paper there was clearly an H!! She then started writing more H's but turned some of them into #s. So I pointed out her correct H, and also wrote one for her, and she wrote more H's - and also an A! She figured out that the A is sort of like the H but with the tops of the lines touching. I was so proud I grabbed the camera and took some pictures. She was also thrilled with herself and wanted a picture of every H she wrote. It is so fun when everything "clicks" in her head and she does something new. When she was finished she folded the paper up to make a book and we shared it with Daddy when he got home. :-)
Luke finished kindergarten last month and was promoted to 1st grade. :-) He had excellent comments from all of his teachers and we are proud of all that he learned. Just like Audrey learning to write, it was amazing to see everything that Luke learned and how fast he caught on to reading. And the best part is that he LOVES reading!

We took the kids to the Coralville reservoir beach for the first time a few weekends ago and they loved it! We hope it warms up so we can go back again this summer. They dug in the sand and Luke liked finding fossil rocks (the beach is above the dam and Fossil Gorge).
I only wish there was an easy way to get sand out of their hair!

The kids are going on vacation to Grandma & Grandpa V's this Friday for a week while Ben and I vacation in Colorado. :-) We are so excited to get out to the mountains and visit Ben's sister and the kids are looking forward to visiting the "Grandma with the barn," as Audrey says.

And lastly, we got the kids Cubs hats this month so we all can wear our Cubs hats at the same time and show our never-ending pride for a losing team. :-)
